The London 2012 Olympics have been announced as the greatest show on the planet. The whole London community is getting involved to make sure London 2012 is a great success. No expenses have been spared to turn the Olympic Park in East London into an amazing venue. There will a brand new Olympic Stadium, a swimming venue, a new basketball arena, bars and restaurants, shops, a dedicated athlete’s village and a media centre. And to top it all, there will be a new super casino right next to the Olympic Park!

It was announced last week that Aspers Casino Group has won the licence to run a new giant casino in Stratford City, next to the venue of the London 2012 Olympic Games in east London. The new casino will be the biggest casino in the United Kingdom. The new casino will be part of the Stratford City Mall.

Westfield Stratford City shopping centre will open in September 2011 and will be the largest mall in Europe when it opens. The shopping centre will offer plenty of entertainment space, including a state-of-the-art new cinema with 2,832 seats across 14 screens, a 14-lane bowling alley, a library and an art gallery. With the announcement of a new Las Vegas-style gaming complex within the new shopping centre, the offer will be truly outstanding.

The new casino will be a joint venture between Australian-owned shopping centre developer Westfield and casino operator Aspers, owned by the Aspinall family. The Aspers group is a well known British casino operator. The Aspers group is owned by the Aspinall family and Crown Limited, one of the world’s leading gaming companies based in Melbourne, Australia. Aspers run other casinos in the United Kingdom including the Aspinalls Club in Mayfair which is an internationally renowned exclusive gaming venue.  The operator has been selected to run the new casino and to deliver outstanding service.

The 65,000 sqft casino will have 38 gaming tables, 80 games terminals, 150 slot machines (with a maximum jackpot of £4,000) and a 150-seat poker room. The new super casino will be located in the Central Arcade at the new Westfield Stratford City mall and will be the first of its kind to open in the UK. It is estimated that up to 450 jobs will be created with the launch of the new casino.

Aspers said the casino will not only offer great casino games, poker, sports betting and bingo but the complex will also offer a restaurants, bars and a cabaret venue designed for live entertainment.

Damian Aspinall, Chairman of Aspers, described the new complex as “Aspers’ most exciting project to date”. The casino group is delighted to be part of delivery great entertainment to East London and to the visitors coming to watch the London 2012 Olympics. They will now have to turn the dream into reality over the next few months and all Londoners will have to be a little bit more patient before they can enjoy the fun of the casino in East London.

The entertainment and retail offer which will available in Westfield Stratford City will be outstanding and benefit to people in East London but also to visitors from all over the London area. The new casino will be a major part of the overall entertainment offer. It is also great news for gamblers in the UK as a similar plan for a super casino near Manchester was axed by former British Prime Minister Gordon Brown in 2007.
